Implementation for Forest Department – Government Initiatives

Trees have both an economical and ecological value. In countries such as India, Brazil, Madagascar, Taiwan, Malaysia among others, forest resources constitute a significant part of the national economy.

Unfortunately, the wholesale cutting of trees and resultant deforestation have been linked to environmental problems.

India with its rapid urbanization is facing a huge challenge in this segment. As per data from (http://envfor.nic.in/) Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, India, around 1.1 Million trees were lost in 17 states in a short span of Three years. The number has been growing at a rapid rate since this data was collected. And to top it all, the figures which are reported and available in public domain might be too less than the actual figures. The situation is alarming and governments around the world are looking for a solution to preserve its forests.

In response to the aforementioned problems, governments around the world are now enacting policies to conserve forests. Unfortunately, policies to conserve forests are expensive and difficult to implement. Programs such as reserve area tree protection and logging bans have proven to be unsuccessful at halting tree cutting. Countries such as Brazil are expected to spend millions of dollars to launch remote sensing satellites to monitor their rain forests. Other present methods of implementing forest conservation policies tend to demand a large amount of manpower and are expensive.

Requirement:

Accordingly, there is a need to develop a kind of device, that not only reports the presence of tree, but also felling of tree. The system should work with minimum man-power and low power consumption– since any device that is transmitting will require power and should be cost-effective.

Dynakode Initiative:

Dynakode with its innovative Location and Radio technology has developed a long-range signal emitter sensor unit. This emitter combined with G-Sensor, and GPS module is able to locate the presence of trees from a very long distance. A single receiver can monitor more than 2000 trees in a single go. The sensor unit, detects felling of tree and immediately sends an alert. It also reports to central unit about its presence at every defined time interval. The developed system has no dependency on telecom service provider and is cost-effective since it does not have to pay to use the data channel.

Some of the salient features are as follows –
  1. PTFE IP65 enclosure
  2. Utilizes data transmission frequency that is interference free
  3. Integrated G-sensors, and GPS module, helps to create heat-map of the trees in a given area
  4. Self-powered sensor with a life span of more than 2 years
  5. Tower mountable receiver unit to provide better coverage of the area
  6. Can be used to monitor the presence of other assets in forest.

Dynakode has been constantly on a drive to innovate and address problem statement that require automation of information capture with location parameters. Currently its solutions are deployed to track and monitor more than 100,000 vehicles using GPS(Optimus), tracking and monitoring of IT assets with use of Active RFID (Activus), deep and very valuable data analytics on time series data engines and more. With the success of its DynaTTS ( Dynakode Tree Tracking Sensor ), we are confident to enable several responsible agencies in Government to be able to monitor and control the felling of trees and provide a better future for generations to come.

Dynakode Connected Dendrometer (DynaTTS-2)

A tree is a living thing, as other living things, a Tree also experience stress that impacts their growth. Team Dynakode had put many hours in analyzing the research done in this domain. Based on some well known studies, team has created a device that shall not only help scientific community but to every stake holder in Tree / Forest ecosystem.

Dynakode innovative Connected Dendrometer  is a self contained IoT dendrometer with in-built sensors to measure temperature. humidity, displacement, tree growth change parameters and data storage. The collected data is pushed to a central server. The valuable data provided by this unit helps in many processes including – tree indicator based automatic irrigation system, pro-active alerts on infection, and health parameters of the tree.
